Fwd: Reducing disk usage?

I'm trying to reduce the amount of disk space used by my PMMail98
files.

Two things come to mind, although I'm open to other possibilities.

1. Is there any way to remove the attachment from a message?  In a
lot of cases I want to retain what the person said, but the
attachment has been saved elsewhere (and deleted, or maybe archived
offline).  This has saved a lot of space in Fort=82 Agent and would
help me greatly.

2. My disk usage is much greater than the total filesize.  Yes I
know this is because of many many small files.  Is there any way
(or possibly as a new feature) to consolidate older messages so
that I can still access them easily but have them in one file?

I intend to clean out a lot of messages, but I expect the
diskusage:filesize ratio will still be up around its current 5.5:1.
 Any other suggestions will be welcome.
