Hold it! Get Caldera Open Linux if you're considering this. It
includes Boot Magic, a replacement for Boot Manager that can launch
OS/2, Linux, DOS, Doze, NT, etc. And, it comes with Partition Magic
too. OpenLinux is available with a good sized book ("Using Linux,
Caldera Edition", or something like that) at Barnes and Noble or
Borders (probably other places too). Great if you have little
experience with Linux.

For what it's worth, and to provide fairness and balance to this, I
work with one of their sister companies, so you might want to
consider what I say with a grain of salt. On the other hand, I've
tried RedHat, and watched a few people futz (a technical term) around
with Debian, and Caldera's system seems like the easiest to install
and use, and is very reliable (I'm not just saying this 'cuz I work
with them - check it out for yourself). Hey, even if you just get it
for Partition Magic and Boot Magic, it's probably worth the price of
the book. Yes, I know one of the authors. No, I don't get kickbacks
on the book, or even from the sales of OpenLinux, although the group
I work with certainly benefits from their experience and their
product, in a different but related product category.

Also in the For What It's Worth area, this same "Linux" company
allows me to use OS/2 (on 2 machines), and has been very gracious in
helping find compatible computers, etc. Try doing that at RedHat or
Microsoft!!

I do. They suck, big time. All of them. PMMail is far superior.
It's a surprise to me that Linux, with networking, web support, etc.,
etc., has such poor e-mail support. I guess the early adopters
didn't want to talk to each other ;-)

Righto! Even with "protection", it is unbelievable how many
cheap-skate Dozers there are out there, copying software and
spreading it like there's no tomorrow (oh yeah - for them there won't
be a tomorrow after 1/1/2000).

Gee, ever heard of FUD? The "cheap OS/2 / Linux users" cruft is
coming from Dozers. Most of whom couldn't work their way out of a
wet paper back with an axe and a shovel. If I had a nickel for each
of the cheapo b......s that I've had to rescue from their own
stupidity, I could probably fund PMMail for OS/2 and Linux
single-handedly ;-)

>a known brand name like MS Outlook 2000 (gag!).

Yes, and a "brand" new bug or security leak every few days. What a
pitiful life!
