Have they given up?

Can you run 10 year old windows program on NT - maybe, but
probably not!

Can you run 10 year old OS/2 programs on OS/2 - why
certainly!

Good luck with your "support" from MS - you bloody well need
it!

I particularly loved the way that MS started describing
Win3.1 software as "legacy applications" about a month
after Win95 was released

As ususal, MS ignored the standards, (the dictionary meaning
of the word), prefering to imbue it with negative attributes
and implying that you should replace your perfectly good working
Win16 s/w with 32-bit Win32 software with a funny badge on the
box (and a dancing paperclip if you're really lucky)!

IBM use the word closer to standard dictionary definition,
far from being a term of abuse, it is a bequest - something
of value from a predesessor - IBM strive to allow their
customers to preserve the value of their legacies;
MS strive to make you throw away the thing of value, and
send them cash for a new version! Most people fall for it
too!

This is one reason why MS has had such diffficulty conquering
"enterprises" - IT departments just can't afford the 2 to 3
year replacment cycles required my "choosing" MS.
