Agreed, but this is partly because the people who have created public
key software, up to this point, have been GROSSLY incompetent in
explaining the system to a layperson and writing an interface which
makes simple and obvious the common functions.

PGP is *NOT* actually that complicated. If explained simply, a novice
could be up and running within 10 minutes.
