Greg, you're right.

But then, how many people live in a house with the design sense of say Frank Lloyd-Wright or equivalent? Nay, how 
many even KNOW about the Golden Rectangle as the most pleasing proportion to the eyes? How many designers would know? 

It is a conundrum: most of us would be able to say "Yep! I like that!" when they see something well-designed, of good 
taste etc. But hardly any one of us could explain it or apply the underlying principles to anything in our lives over 
which we actually have control. 

Let's keep putting it in front of people's eyes. 

I am glad there is the Interface Hall of Fame/Hall of Shame web site (http://WWW.IARCHITECT.COM/shame.htm) to do some 
of that.
