	Message->Delete->Delete_and_Close 
The menu also indicates this can be initiated via F7.

Since you are in TRASH, there is no place for the message to go except
'poof...'

Likewise, F8 => Delete_and_Up
          F9 => Delete_and_Down

i.e.,  Working as designed and documented...
