Which is one reason (the other being long uptime) where I would like a
timed trash removal (once every 24 hours would be fine).

I'm convinced that this is something to do with PMMail/2's tendency to
stop retrieving messages from the directories where my MTA stores them
on receipt, it seems to be loosely related to the presence of
significant amounts of trash.
