[pmmail-list] Can't read message

I have a friend who uses Outlook Express, and has sent me several messages which I can't read 
with PMMail.  PMMail says they are about 9.6Kb, but they seem to be only 4 bytes of 2 
characters which are not familiar to me.

The heading of the message contains
>X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2615.200
>X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2615.200
What can I ask him to do so I can read his messages?  Or what can I do?

I can read messages from other people using Microslop Outlook
