So "the markup is the message" as far as you are concerned? :^)

I remember when email was a communications medium whereby users 
employed words encoded as text to convey a message to other parties
in an interoprable fashion governed by interbnationally agreed RFCs 
and STDs.

Fortunately things have now been "improved" by the likes of MS and
NS to the point where the STDs and RFCs have been embraced and 
extended to the point that interoperability is lost!
