A few thoughts:

1. Yes, that would have been the much better way to evolve a solution
for text markup in email -- something that is based on plaintext
equivalents so noncompliant readers could see it more or less as it
was meant, too. Too bad it didn't work out that way.

2. It appears that most of the people asking for "HTML support" in
PMMail are really asking for the ability to view mark-up produced by
some other client. I don't recall seeing many people saying "I really
want/need to *send* marked up text." Does anyone else remember
differently?
