[pmmail-list] Error 10061...Could not connect

Hi,

since I upgraded from 2581 to the last beta 2657SE my system is unable 
to connect to my mail-server.
Neither fetching via POP3 nor sending via SMTP is possible, every 
request is answered with the message  "Error 10061...Could not connect" .
The account error log has no entries at all.
I'm using Windows 2000 Professional SP3.

I have tried both using remote-control and normal fetching and the same 
problem is with my second ISP.
Furthermore I tried the following:
- create a new account
- de-install pmmail an re-install 2657SE
- de-install pmmail an re-install  2502
but no success

I'm able to telnet to my mail-server, it answers the following:
+OK Mirapoint POP3PROXY 3.2.0-GA server ready
+OK Name is a valid mailbox
but there is no reaction to the pass-command.
Using The Bat as an alternative mail-application gave the same results.

I then created a mail-account in Mozilla mail to see what would happen 
and right away I connected to the mail-server and began fetching my mail.
Sending mail is also no problem as you can read  :-)

What can possibly be wrong ??
