TIA. First off - STOP using the drive, if at all possible. No writes!! Second - check the Recycle Bin? It holds a maximum of 1500 files or so, so that might not contain everything - my PMMail folders have over 350,000 messages in them, dating back a decade. Third - yes, probably a recovery effort... I can recommend Handy Recovery - it works well, and it relatively affordable - also works on CF and SD memory cards. http://www.handyrecovery.com/ Demo will allow you to see what's there... actual recovery requires payment. Hope this helps - good luck! -Derek -- Derek W. The system does seem prone to error with fallible human beings like me. Maybe there should be a message (as some programs have) Do you REALLY want to delete an ACCOUNT? What saved me was the undelete utility. It didn't work 100% because I had too many PMMail files which overflowed some buffer. As I said I got most of the rest back from my archive. Maybe the victim in this case can use an undelete utility? From derek at finnsoft.com Fri May 23 14:51:02 2008 From: derek at finnsoft.com (Derek W. People that do backups don't ask questions like "how do I restore a deleted account". :) I've been in business for 13+ years doing this, and have seen more blank stares when I ask about a recent backup set than I can remember. -Derek -- Derek W. True - but having successfully recovered a lot of "deleted" data from hard drives over the years, using a variety of methods - it's not like it's "truly gone" until you've tried a recovery method beyond throwing your arms in the air, saying "oh well, that's that!" while your online community you asked for help cheerfully reprimands and scolds you for not doing a recent backup. -Derek -- Derek W. I used it and recovered most of the files according to my relative. She at least had the sense to stop using the PC after the deletion event. For the others:- Please note that many people, particularly women it seems, can quite happily use computers doing all sorts of stuff. But they cannot, for some reason, get their heads round backing up. For example, my relative can't get the hang of using a cd writer or USB Stick for backups and I am going to have to lead her gently through this education process. Anyway, many thanks to all for the suggestions.
