Message-ID: <255204.90448.qm@smtp128.mail.ukl.yahoo.com> In my PMMail (win version ) address book I have a couple of people whose email address start with thomas... at ..... To one of them I write very often emails or put him on CC Now when I start to write a new email and start typing an email address then PMMails auto-completion comes into play. Unfortunately ALWAYS one of the seldom "thomas.... at ..." email addresses is suggested. So I have always to type almost the full address to get the intended address. Auto-completion is not helpful here. I wonder wether it is possible to re-arrange/change priority of the auto-complete suggestions in PMMail. Or is there any other work-around? Thank you Ben From aknash at sbcglobal.net Fri Jul 23 15:35:37 2010 From: aknash at sbcglobal.net (Keith Nash) Date: Fri, 23 Jul 2010 07:35:37 -0600 Subject: [pmmail-list] email address auto-completion priority change possible? Try using an alias when you set up his/her address book entry. For example, use WJD for 'John Doe at work'. Message-ID: <366030.19750.qm@smtp138.mail.ukl.yahoo.com> Occasionally I receive some emails with e.g. an non-expressive Topic/Subject line like "Contact" or "offer". No, they are not Spam. I move them to my own archive folders for later re-read. However when I search later for exactly this msg then it is very difficult to find them among 1000 of emails. I would appreciate if I could edit the refering *.msg file and put a new Subject line into it. Unfortunately PMMail does not like this. The new *.msg is rejected. It seems to me that there is a hash CRC32 value, last update date of the *.mSG file or something similar saved in the *.BAG file. Is there a trick/work around which let me edit a *.MSG file anyway? What you can't do, though, with that script, is to index the folder you move the message to. You will have to do it manually. On OS/2, I have a REXX script which did change the subject line of an incoming message (but which was more or less in vain, since PMmail already had scanned the message for the items to put in the index), and another script as a custom send script which would change the FROM header and move the message to the outbox of another account. On Windows I would recommend to use VBscript instead of REXX. Don't be confused by PMmail talking about "REXX exits" in the configuration; this can be any executable file. In-Reply-To: <000.005f0500e0784c4c.003@willms-edv.de> Message-ID: You can copy (not move) an incoming message to another folder in the same account, or to another account altogether, by using the "bounce" function. Or you can move it to another folder in the same account by using the "move" function. Set up a filter for the emails you want to bounce or move, and they'll be sent unaltered to the destination folder/account. Be sure to put the "bounce" and "move" filters ahead of any other filters that effect those particular emails. The execution of the filters is sequential. Regarding your other question, you can change the subject line of an email by setting up a "set subject" action in the filter list for those emails. The emails will then have the subject you dictate. In advanced filtering, you can use boolean options to cover more than one type of incoming header. The advanced filters are very useful in PM Mail, and are one of the main reasons I continue to use it. You can also filter outgoing mails so they are sent to specific folders automatically, a feature that Thunderbird, for instance, lacks. I hate having to organize mail into folders manually. The filters can also be used manually if you need to catch up with a new filtering definition to move old emails. Just check the "manual" box when you define the filter. R. In-Reply-To: <000.005f0500e0784c4c.003@willms-edv.de> Message-ID: I need to clarify my previous on bouncing and moving messages. "Bounce" will send a a copy of the message, without alteration, to a new email address. (But this can also be your own email address.) When you select "bounce," you are presented with a new field which has to be filled in with the target email address. "Forward" works the same way, but adds "RE" to the subject line and also reveals all the hidden headers (looks a bit cluttered, but it works). "Move" and "copy" will send the message to a different folder within the same account. You can mix these functions; for instance, you could bounce a message to a different account and move/copy it to a different folder in the original account, all within the same filter. You just have to be mindful of filter sequence. On changing the subject line, you can use the "set subject" function within a filter, but it has to refer to the subject line of the message coming in. I have experimented with this, since it's not something I would normally use. If you tell the filter to search for something in the "from" field, and then use the "set subject" function, it won't work. It has to be looking for something in the "subject" field. I had it change the subject "test" to the subject "Message from Ben," and it worked successfully. It did not work when I told it to look in the "from" field for the sender's email address. R.
