Well then, I have news for you.
Australia to US service capacity has been in the multi-GIGabit range
for at least the 5 years that I have been connected. Individual
private carriers have leased multiple T-1 capacity links for VPNs for
that time too.
Maybe you are thinking of one carrier/provider only?
