PMM/2 v2.10: Trash folder discrepancies

I've just had another occurrence of something that happens every so
often. PMM shows 314 msgs in my Trash folder, but DIR *.MSG shows 1136
msgs. This time, this happened after I went thru the Sent Mail folder,
deleted ~280 msgs, and closed PMM (to a very long bout of hard-drive
thrashing). I don't remember the steps that have led up to this
situation in the past. In the past I've dealt with this by doing a DEL
*.MSG from the DOS or OS/2 cmd line and starting over, but I'd rather
put a stop to it. Ideas? Thank you.
