FWIW

Had the same problem as described below.  When other users started 
writing about it, I wondered why I had no problem.  Then one day I was
using my wife's account and noted the same problem.  I did a little checking
and found that if I added just one 'canned reply' to that account, then 
everything worked just fine.

Anyway, worked for me . . .
