The OS/2 hoopla.

OK, just wanted to ring here for a moment and bring a little reality check
to the various complaints I've seen on list.
While the OS/2 release wasn't a massive workover, some bugs were fixed and
it is a release which is progress. A lot of people seem to be missing that
point.
Furthermore, what Southsoft had promised for this release should not be
held to BSW. I don't mean any slight to Southsoft or BSW at all. Things
happened, plans changed and other things needed to be taken care of so some
forward movement could be made.
Forward movement has been made. PMMail is now in the hands of people who
have the time and resources to devote to the future growth of the product.
Please, don't lose sight of that, don't bitch and gripe and complain that some
pet bug or feature wasn't included and try to attach that negativity to either
Southsoft or BSW.
Commend Southsoft for giving up their baby to someone else. That takes a
lot, especially for all the time that Bob & Ike have clearly put into it.
Commend BSW for picking up the product. It comes with a lot of high
expectations and a lot of work that needs to be performed just to catch up
with the industry as it stands now, much less the long-standing bugs and
feature requests.
I don't think anyone who has complained can say exactly how long the deal
was in the works, how long BSW has had the code or what Southsoft would have
done with it if BSW had not stepped forward. I think it is supremely unfair
to make any judgement on this release when so little of the facts are known.
Leave that for the next release. Give BSW some time to work with the code, to
get a feel for it, to be able to listen to and address the concerns of its new
found userbase before pulling out the mortars and flamethrowers and going to
town.
Does it really take someone who doesn't use that OS any more, nor the
client in question in any form to grasp onto the reasonable course of action?
I'd love to switch back to PMMail. I'd love to have a Linux version. I'd
love to have a fully functional IMAP to my very demanding specifications.
I'd love to have a lot of things. But I'm going to sit and wait for BSW to
make *their* plans known instead of hold them to the plans made by Southsoft
for Southsoft.
