Yes but this is the devil I know.  (I'm rather conservative in these
matters, can't afford down-time in mission-critical work.)  

I tried to install 1.96a to solve the Y2K problem but got an install
failure:

 Unable to create file PMMDIP.DI_
 The file is in use or locked.

So I gave up on that too.
