But my copy doesn't. I always shut down PMMail after reading/replying. 
Mind you I'm on:

X-Mailer: PMMail 2.00.1500 for OS/2 Warp 3.00

I think I have 2.10 lurking about somewhere maybe I'll load that up. Bit 
of the "it ain't broke so don't fix it" syndrome I'm afraid. I guess 
it's "broke" now though.  B-)
