A simple one available in some word processors--select text, hit Ctrl-F, Find 
dialog pops up with selection in place, ready for search.

Or how about a built-in (or add on!) scripting language along the lines of 
VBA, so that I can build my own menus and dialogs for common tasks 
performed within the program?
