We agree on this much but if the quoted message is short, then I normally don't bother to cut
out the garbage.

If it is a long message with different responses required to different parts, then I will
intersperse my comments within the quoted text and in that case put it after the statement I am
commenting on.
I don't normally do that as it is a lot of extra work but there are times when it is the only
thing that makes sense. I find it most irritating to scroll down through a long set of quotes to
find a simple NO, YES or "YOUR CRAZY" or that type of comment at the bottom. Much rather
see the comment at the top. But then, this is like politics or religion or editors, 15 people will
have 16 opinions.
