just a pointer to the settings notebook of PMMAIL (v2.22.2380): There's
a checkbox on the "preferences" page of the account settings, that
says:
 "Quote messages in text replies with the following string "
 This is followed by an entry field with has ">" as default. 
 Anyone may change this according to his/her liking. 

 It's not in v1.x, hence those who are fond of this feature should
upgrade now <g>.
