Of course, the reference to a time of 5 s./message is dependent upon
the total number of messages. A small quantity of 150 messages is
removed from my Trash folder in about 2.5 seconds or around 16 to 18
ms/message.
I would surmise that the curve is somewhat exponential as the quantity
of messages to be removed exceeds 1000.

It is probably removing an entry, sorting the .bag file by moving each
entry after the one removed up a line and then saving the .bag file,
then repeating the same cycle.
This could take a while, file operations tend to be slow if the disk
is
involved, faster to do it all in memory!
