FWIW/YMMV: My major accounts are set at 120 seconds (I get several hundred email each day).  I have 10 email account and the times 
range up to 3600 seconds, I don't note any CPU lockup unless I am reindexing and then I can still do stuff, but the CPU meter is maxed if 
there are more than 2500 messages in the folder....
