My folders in PMMail are severely messed up and I desperately need help
in correcting the problems. They are set out below. FWIW I have both
PMMail/2, latest version on eCS no FP and PMMail 2000, 2.20.2502, on
Win2000 Pro at SP 2. I happened to have been using the Win version
when the problem occurred and when the reindexing took place. I have
latest version of Norton 2002 updates through yesterday, and set to
check incoming mail. I have run Norton on the drive containing both
PMMail versions and the drive containing the data files. No virii
found. Is there anything else I can try that might salvage some of the
unread mail that was in that downloaded batch? Where might those files
be? Can they be read by anything? Any and all suggestions would be
most welcome.
Here is what happened, including a description of the folders after the
reboot:
This morning, immediately after downloading 27 email messages, 10-12
of which were address directly to me, by name, showed to have been
filtered to "Real Mail" as planned, but apparently before the index was
updated the system locked (neither mouse or keyboard worked)
Ultimately had to use C-A-D to reboot and sure enough upon reboot
things were in pretty bad shape to say the least.
1. The real mail folder before had over 1300 messages, 127-129 of which
were marked unread, which increased to 139 after download. After
reboot, showed 50+ messages, 0 unread and none of the new messages were
present. Re-indexed and recovered over 1200 messages, but none of the
new messages and none marked unread. Some of the reindexed messages
were actually received some time ago )some as much as 2 weeks ago, one
over 2 months ago).
2. An entirely unrelated folder was renamed "net" from "lists" and in
filters what had pointed to "Real Mail" now pointed to "net". Several
other folders were similarly messed up. I would bet these other
folders also received messages during the last download.
3. There were 2 messages from others in the Outbox which were sent
somewhere. Both had been addressed to me. I found one in my email at
work later today, but that address was not in the original header. I
have no idea where the other file went. I'm sure someone is most upset
because in was over 5.1 MB and contained several really cute pictures
of my granddaughter. Seriously, if any one on this list was the
recipient, please accept my sincere apologies. I tried to stop it
without success.
4. One folder now is red, rather than green to indicate unread mail
Why I don't know.
