I've mentioned this in the past...
I use a Rexx script to archive my pmmail messages. I put all my e-mail
from, for example, Laurie into Laurie.msg within Personal.zip. This
one zip file now contains 2055 messages from 126 correspondents. It's
compressed, platform-independent, reliable, and there are tools to
search, manipulate, and test the integrity of zip archives.
It's best to set it up as an external filter, so you just highlight the
messages you want to archive, click the RMB, and select Archive. For
each selected message, a command prompt window pops up with its best
guess of archive/member (based on a control file). You can accept or
override, and choose to edit the member after the new message has been
concatenated but before it has been stored.
I keep very few messages in the PMMail file structure.
