Paul,
I'm not sure that I'm convinced. And if you review my last e-mail, I
started out by saying that the images are another story. I also do not
agree that HTML e-mail is rude. I know too many people who just don't
know better or want the formatting ability. Does that make them rude?
No. Are they being reasonable in their assumption that my e-mail
program can read HTML? Absolutely. And it can - just not well.
In my opinion the difference between HTML e-mail and plain text is
really about the difference between a verbose and a terse
correspondent. How many HTML messages do you get a day? Counting the
extra characters, and the extra download time, even at 56k, does it
REALLY make all that much difference. I'm not arguing that it doesn't
make a difference - I'm just saying it doesn't make much of one,
considering.
I'm not going to stand on a soapbox about this, so I'm probably going
to drop the thread. There will be people that I will never be able to
convince on this (truly trivial) point, and I have better bloody things
to do with my time. However, the fact remains that *IF* one of my
correspondents *chooses* to use HTML, either consciously or through
ignorance, I should *bloody well* expect my e-mail program of choice to
format the freaking thing properly, considering we are now in 2002.
It's not like it's 1995.
