Hi Trevor,
Both POP and SMTP are the same ie "mail".
I did "ping mail.optusnet.com.au" and the result was:-
PING mail.optusnet.com.au: 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=0. time=40. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=1. time=20. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=2. time=20. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=3. time=30. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=4. time=20. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=5. time=30. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=6. time=20. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=7. time=20. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=8. time=30. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=9. time=20. ms

64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=11. time=30. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=12. time=30. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=13. time=40. ms
64 bytes from 210.49.20.168: icmp_seq=14. time=30. ms
----mail.optusnet.com.au PING Statistics----
15 packets transmitted, 15 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip (ms) min/avg/max = 20/27/40
Incidentally, If I send a test message from Netscape/2 for os/2
[v4.61 latest refresh], then the message is sent instantly.
No hesitation at all.!
The problem MUST be with PmMail/2 and not the DLink 804 switch.
[Sorry Scott, but i do not believe that the problem is in the Dlink.]
For the problem to be the DLink then Netscape Messenger should also
have failed. But netscape works.!
ALso, temporarily I altered the SMTP setting of PmMail/2 to be:-
210.49.20.168 and the same delay in sending occurs.
I have now returned the setting to the original "mail",
ie mail.optusnet.com.au
I would rather use the "mail.optusnet.com.au" that the dotted IP address
as the Cable Internet provider has been known to change their
settings regularly and without notice.
Over to you, Trevor.
Regards,
BobT.
