[pmmail-list] auto trash delete does not work?

I have trash set to empty after two days.  When this thread started I
noticed I had one email that was dated 8/9/2002.  I just checked again
and it is still there.  All the rest are between 9/10 and 9/12, except
for one that is dated 10/12/2002.  I assume this is because someone has
their date set incorrectly.

Any reason why the 8/9/2002 won't go away?  What should I look for to
resolve the mystery?
