I do something similar.  I bypass my cable provider Comcast's SMTP
server and send email through an account I have with a mail service
which doesn't have Comcast's 2MB message size limit.  For that matter,
I also bypass Comcast's POP server and use a different account that
doesn't suffer their limitations.
