| Does the POP mail server *require* encryption of all mail traffic? Or
|only during authentication?
The latter.
| Since the server only requests encryption, PMMail can politely decline.
| I am curious. These "security reasons": What are they?
A break-in into the mail server.
|Who established them?
The mail sysop (probably the wrong denomination. Guess you'll understand
nevertheless.)
| What security problem(s) does encrypting mail traffic solve? Is there no
|exception policy in place that the admins can follow?
Equiped with recent knowledge, I think that a "tunnel" program (originally
from Unix) can transform the open identification procedure of any
application into a crypted one.
