  Sure, why not.  Actually I back up my data onto tin cylinders with a
needle making an impression in the tin while I crank the handle to spin
the cylinder.

  For some reason when I saw this it reminded me of those programs that
people used to sell to back up your data onto a VCR back in the days
that the home user could never afford a "real" tape backup device. 
You'd see the ads in the back of Computer Shopper and other computer
mags.
  I never bought that, heck I had trouble enough keeping a copy of
M*A*S*H* on videotape in viewable condition nevermind my data.
