not clearly explain the problem which I encountered: sending messages 
was refused with a reason code of 550: 

   550 relay not permitted ;

   i.e. the new version of the SMTP server implemented new policies to 
enforce for relaying. 

   Whenever out of the blue your SMTP server refuses to accept your 
outgoing mail with such a message, and you do not use 2.30.2382, install 
that new version, and the problem should go away. Not only with this 
Exim, but other servers, too.
