   In general the protocols are built-in, part of the code. I looked 
around for a SASL proxy for adding secure protocols to non-secure 
products but haven't found one yet.
   Mozilla 1.4 (and Thunderbird 0.4) support these protocols. Another 
reason to abandon PMMail. <sigh>
