Thanks Phil and all who have provided so much valuable knowledge on WIN2K3
and OS/2 client. Not being an IT person, BSEE by education, my networking
knowledge has been limited. However, using OS/2 since its early days has
always been a challenge, especially networking. Most of the time it's been
trial-and-error, but for the most part it's been pretty successful.
I've learned alot and have also started reading up on the samba stuff. I've
seen that mentioned but never paid much notice. I'll pass along the NetBEUI
stuff to one of the IT guys. Perhaps I'll still get this on the servers in
our office at least. That's where I keep most of my OS/2 stuff anyhow.
Thanks again all,
Don

It's really easy to add support to Win2K3 for NetBeui (I'm a network admin
running Win2K3 with XPpro clients). It's simply a matter of opening
"Network Connection properties and adding NetBEUI protocol. No reboot
needed.
FWIW, the reason that NetBEUI was discarded by default in XP and in Win2K3
was for security reasons. It does not use encrypted authentication and MS
wants all networks to use Kerberos for authentication and security
communications.
The difficulties reported in getting NetBEUI on servers is probably a "red
herring" - it is more likely that the NetAdmins just don't want to fool with
the security risks associated with allowing server access with NetBEUI ...

-)It's just that Win2003 AND xp doesn't run NETBEUI (aka NETBIOS/TCPIP) by
default anymore. It is supposed to
-)use plain TCP/IP. You have to install NETBIOS/TCPIP explicitly. Don't ask
me how (still running OS/2 ;-)) ).
