    Well, right now the free competitors that are GUI on Linux are:

Balsa - Basically a GNOME frontend on a mutt backend.  I've not looked at it
recently but when I did 6 months ago it was slick for the single-account
users.  Not up to PMMail standards, but it fit well with standard Linux
tools which, together, rival PMMail, just take more to set up.  Balsa will
most likely be preinstalled on any distribution that is going with GNOME.
Corel's upcoming distribution will be GNOME based, Debian is also going to
be GNOME based.

KMail - The default email client for KDE.  When I looked at it last, again,
about 6 months ago, it was functional for a single-account.  Now up to
PMMail standards.  It was, hrm... about on par with Eudora in Eudora's 1.x
days.  I know not what improvements have been made recently and, again,
since it is made with modularity in mind when coupled with the standard
Linux utils it becuse more powerful than the sum of its parts.  It is almost
assured that any distribution that is KDE based will have KMail
preinstalled.  Red Hat, iirc, is going KDE in v6.0 (/. is my last reference
for that information) and I think SUSE is also KDE.
