So, what's your point?  As it happens, the mail server which ships in
Red Hat 6.1 Linux does both ports simultaneously.  In tests I've had
multiple e-mail clients accessing my mail server both via POP and via
IMAP (using The Bat!, among others).  The same mail server was serving
both ports at the same time.
