Thanks Trevor, that was most enlightening!

I have read the O'Reilly book, and most of the help pages on the
downloaded-from-MIT PGP freeware, but I still find it confusing to
do anything more than encrypt and/or decrypt a message (as is
probably obvious).

The Eudora plug-in is quite confusing, and I don't think there's
anywhere that says "if you want to read this after sending it, just
add your own private key to the list before encrypting".  And it's
awkward!  (I find PMMail must easier to use that way).  If the
Outlook plug-in is as hard, it's not surprising people don't use
it.
