Sorry but it *is* 100% reproducible. The problem *only* shows up with
lots of messages in trash *and* it is deleting messages older than n
days. Emptying trash does not cause any problems, because I suspect
it does the lot in one fell swoop and then rebuilds the index.
Deleting one by one OTH seems to reindex after every delete -
probably in an attempt to maintain integrity if it craps out.

I think the only workaround, which I have not tried, would be to run
a script down the trash folders that deleted files older than n days
- gfind . -mtime +n rm {} or similar and then reindex inside pmmail.
