I mentioned earlier that I'd had similar problems when using my
laptop (Win2000 with PMMail) but not with my desktop (Win98 with
slightly newer PMMail ... 2.20.2475), and speculated at the time that
it might be version related or OS related.

I've since gotten the same problem on my desktop, so it's not version
or OS related, after all.

The symptoms are I get the Server Broke Connection message every time
when downloading some specific message. When I try again, all the
earlier downloaded messages are re-downloaded, just like you
describe, and the failure occurs again on the same message. Usually
this is a large message, but I can't prove it's always a large
message.

Like you, I wonder why the previously d/l'ed messages must be
re-d/l'ed after the problem ... but I'm really more concerned about
why it appears some message is triggering the problem in the first
place.

The only way I've gotten past the problem is to access the mail
server via web mail and delete the message which triggers the failure
(it's usually been SPAM anyway). Then, PMMail will download all the
remaining mail without the "server broke connection" message. Leads
me to believe it's something about that particular message that's
triggering the problem either in PMMail or the server ... not
actually a server breaking the connection due to something unrelated
to that particular message.

Just wanted to add this information to your stack to see if anyone
can make sense of the problem. It's costing me money, because I have
to pay extra for attglobal to give me web access. Sure would like to
know how to prevent it without having to use web access to delete
offending mail.
