It does work! I once used the dishwasher to fix mine:

A couple of years back I dumped an expresso in my Northgate 
keyboard and several important keys quit working.

After manual cleaning it still didn't work, so I removed the keycaps,
opened it up to get the circuit board, and put the board in the 
dishwasher for a normal cycle -- with dishwasher detergent.
(I didn't let it do a heated dry).

I hung the cleaned board in the garage to dry for at least a week,
reassembled it, and it works fine. 

Still the best keyboard I've used, even better feel than the IBM
keyboard that came with my first IBM PC in '82. 
(And I still like having the function keys on the left!)
