I resolved this by:

1) Removing the *.Doc pointing to *anything* from the PMMail/2
Settings.

2) Using Association Editor to set the SYSTEM default to set WordPro
for processing those files.

In fact, I have removed almost all of the MIME references and, in
general, things seem to work much better.
