There are a couple of things I don't like.  I miss the ability to select 
a chunk of text, reply, and have the reply consist only of that chunk, 
but there is a workaround that only takes two more keystrokes, and it's 
been reported as a bug, so it will probably get added.  T'bird stores 
one file per folder, instead of one file per message.  I don't like 
that, but in practice it hasn't been a problem.

The HTML handling is infinitely better, of course.  That's why I did 
it.  T'bird is quite configurable, much more so than PMMail.  You can 
use the PMMail 3-pane view, or if you don't like that, there are a 
number of other options.

There's an active (and vocal) community developing T'bird.  That's the 
strongest intangible benefit.
