PMMail and ssh

I would like to utilize my ssh for PMMail.  When PMMail regularly fetches the 
mail, it sends out login name and password unencrypted.  If there is a packet 
sniffer running on a networked machine, one's login and password may be 
compromised and the account cracked.

Did anyone ever used ssh with PMMail?
