By your own definition, then, normal readers can't moderate the list,
since they cannot modify the messages distributed to the entire list
(except their own submissions, of course).

Mr. Ratcliffe asked people not to have OT discussions.  Mr. Lamb called
that and attempt at moderation because people can say whatever they want
on this list. Then Mr. Lamb asked people not to moderate.  Someone else
called that an attempt to moderate.  I'd have to agree.  Rather hilarious,
if you ask me.

In any case, ironically enough, this thread has actually generated more
traffic than the thread which prompted it!
