I'm not sure. I copied my 5.0 keyrings from OS/2 to Windows and
PMMail 2000 in Windows uses them fine. I've never had/used a 6.x key.

If you're worried about destroying your keyrings, just make backups:

copy pubring.pkr pubring.backup
copy secring.skr secring.backup
