Here it is. I don't usually save messages and have my "trash" to cycle at about
10 days, but it am saving off copies of most of the BSW announcements.
(I really wish someone would make a searchable archive of this email list since
it looks as though BSW is not going to do so. I worry though that if someone
other than BSW does this then BSW might step in with concerns about copyright,
or whatever....)
The main focus of this message from Jimmy is assuring the OS/2 users that
they are not going to be features-abandoned, that Thomas has huge plans
for OS/2, etc..... well, reread it yourself:

Hello All,
Peter Nielsen as many of you know is now doing development on PMMail here for us, as well as his
PMView image viewer. Development of both products is in currently in progress and time is spent
between them. Currently Peter is finishing up a significant upgrade to PMView (Currently in beta),
so during the past month work he has spent a great deal of time with PMView.
Peter is also moving to Wilmington, NC to work here with us full time in August of this year and we
are at this time only awaiting an approval notice for his visa. With a bit of luck he and his wife won't
arrive during the middle of a hurricane. (For those of you not in the US, Wilmington has a tendency to
get hit by them).
>Or do you suspect their are massive changes hidden away and disabled for the

We are working on enhancing the stability of the existing version before we begin introducing new
issues by adding new features. Also at this time the source is being changed from C to C++.
As for a two track development, a yes and a no. There have been two versions using different 3rd party
editors for the display and editing of HTML, these however have not been released and the editor been
put on hold while we work on the existing versions. The reason for two different versions using the
editor was one was found to be quite slow and limited in its display of HTML. This was the original
one which was worked with provided the source code, and had planned to use it for the OS/2 version
of PMMail.
The editor which was used most recently and Peter is quite fond of is TX Text Control. It looks as
though we will go with this one. For more information on it for those of you who are interested, please
see http://www.textcontrol.com . The editorfunctions will be available in PMMail with the 3.0
release.
>new features under consideration that can be expected after the bug fixes.
This is not a complete list.
Attachments - Save all attachments at once.
Attachments - Delete attachments from message.
Editor - Not automatically close the window when saving a draft.
Filtering - Move to another account.
Forward - Without headers.
German language edition - The various 'text' areas of PMMail are coded into PMMail's source. This
will need to be translated within the source.
PGP - Network Associates will release the new version of the PGPsdk this month.
PMMail Lite - One account, and limited filters, signatures, canned replies.
IMAP, MAPI, message threading, archival, etc. will need to wait until after the source is completely
updated and added to a 3.0 release. Addtionally Peter has found several other places where the code
can be further streamlined and corrected. At this time the text will be switched outside of the source
for easier translation to other languages.
Additionally Thomas has plans for a greatly enhanced address book and contact manager in PMMail. I
do not know the specifics of this, but he is wanting to steer PMMail toward being the mail client of
choice for business. I believe network functionality, and a complete redesign of the address book are
pretty safe assumptions.
>Here's hoping that PMMail/2 is still TRULY being actively developed ...
The OS/2 version of PMMail is still being developed. The past few releases were just for the Windows
version because all of the issues have been related to the same issue in regards to the editing DLL and
Peter has focused the PMMail work on correcting this now. (The DLL related issues include
kernel32.dll, select all and search function in large messages, 'blanking of messages' with version 2320,
64k text limit 2320, message truncation with screenreaders and some other programs)
Thomas Bradford plans to continue development on the OS/2 version. Peter is all for this is well (if
not more so). So the OS/2 version is still being developed.
Thank you,
jimmy
