I guess the current versions of PMMail would have quite some problems with
shared access to a file which is being updated by more than one workstation at
a time. This is solved, in my opinion, by LDAP.
What needs to be done?
LDAP is only accessible from the Address Book Manager, from the "Tools"
menu, selection "Search Addresses (CTRL-F)". " The results of the search
appear in the bottom half of the dialog", says the online help for this.
And it then continues: "You can treat this list just the same as the
Address List in the Address Book Manager Window. To view or manipulate an
address, simply double click it." The latter is true for editing the address
book entry, but what is missing, is the possibility to drag'n'drop an address
from the Search results window into a message compose window or into an
address book, or to create a message addressed to the selected address(es), as
the main window of the Address Book Manager.
To add this facility (at least the drag'n'drop) should not be too
difficult, I think.
The next, and more complex step, would be to implement updating a remote
LDAP database, either from the search result, or from the address book, or
from direct entry.
