Hello,

One of the nice things about Thunderbird is its extensibility through
plug-ins. Here's a list of some extensions that can be used to make
Thunderbird behave more like PMMail.

1. Folder Pane Tools -- folderpane.xpi - Re-arrange accounts and set
the default action of folders - such as automatically opening the Inbox
http://www.chuonthis.com/extensions/folderpane.php

2. No New Windows on Double-click -- nnwodc.xpi - Prevents Thunderbird
from opening a new window when you double click on a folder in the
folder pane. If the folder has subfolders, the folder will
expand/collapse.

3. magicslr - Replaces the 'Send' button with a 'Send Later' button in
the compose window

4. mailredirect - Thunderbird equivalent of Bounce messages

5. Tagzilla - Insert signatures & textblocks manually or automatically.
(needs jsLib installed FIRST)

6. Buttons! - Adds buttons for next and previous message instead of
just unread messages. Also other buttons for HTML on/off, etc.

7. TB ResetQuoteHeader - Enables selective quoting by blocking text to
be quoted

9. TB Autosave --autosave.xpi - Automatically or manually save
individual or groups of emails as individual message files. Extensions
can be customized to allow easy import into PMMail, etc. This can be a
particularly useful extension because it allows you to export the
individual *.msg files into a folder. PMMail can be set up with that
folder as an SMTP address and it will automatically retrieve and
process the messages. I have some complex filters in PMMail that I
can't replicate in Thunderbird and I use this feature to feed those
messages to PMMail

There are many, many more that extend Thunderbird's features far beyond
PMMail but the ones above are a good place to start.
