Hello,
A while back I posted a question about messages not being transferred from the
dropbox to the inbox. The inbox shows the message but when I open it, I get the message
that it is missing and I should maybe re-index. Usually (argh! not always) manually
moving the message from the dropbox to the inbox fixes the problem.
I found the reason for this. PMMail (at least the os/2 2.20.2382 version)
accommodates FAT16-formatted partitions by using an 8.3 filename format. The name is
encoded in some way based on the current date. The encoding does not take into account
the year. I have a *very* large number of messages accumulated over the years.
PMMail creates a filename that happens to conflict with an existing one in the target
folder. It does not replace the existing message, and does not transfer the message. It
seems to rename the new message to remove the conflict but fails to actually transfer
the renamed message. It does update the folder index with the new name. Thus a
"missing" message.
